Remember “Field of Dreams”—“If you build it they will come”? The same thing can be said of anything built for a specific purpose. So, if an assault rifle is built with no other purpose except to kill a whole lot of people in a few seconds, then “they will come” and use it to kill a whole lot of people. Every tool is meant to be used, we should not be surprised that that particular “tool” is being used … what should surprise and appall us is that those tools are still being made and put into the hands of unstable, murderous people.
Instead of gun control, what if we designate some states as ‘’free fire’’ zones? Prime candidates, Florida, Colorado and Texas. With Idaho and Arizona held in reserve.
We could issue licenses and make some dough.
So tell us, what state most deserves to be a ‘’Free Fire’’ zone?
You know what else is getting back to “normal?” Young women going to bars or other gatherings where people are drinking heavily, getting kidnapped, raped and murdered. I hate that we’re going to start reading about that more often now.
We have a crisis of leadership in DC which exacerbates every critical issue. Without a cooperative collaborative Congress working toward consensus on priority issues for the people, all the important issues are unresolved Congressional session after Congressional session. While we do nothing about the disproportionate representation in Congress that magnifies/intensifies the strength of an anti-democratic minority that obstructs/paralyses legislation the American public’s standard of living goes down while it increases in other nations. We have see in other nations how a fascist minority can take advantage of democratic rule and topple it to become an authoritarian dictatorship. Is that what we want America to be?
We need to have a fully-functional proportionally-representative federal Congress — not a mere mockery of one, aided by rouge States that want elections/representation to be meaningless. This is not normal for a republic.
Hope Abounds. I read this morning that the 9th district court of appeals with a Bush appointed chief justice ruled against “Open Carry” finding there is nothing in the 2nd Amendment that would make open carry legal. This should not infringe on those with a CCL, but would obviously make it illegal for the cult of morons to walk around with an AR of any persuasion. This makes total sense. The NRA will no doubt appeal to the SCOTUS. I don’t think they will agree to hear the appeal with the possible exception of ACB, the newest and least qualified RWNJ judge on the bench, but I won’t hold my breath.
Decades of downgrading the educational system in the USA hasn’t been done by accident. Stupid people are much easier to mold into mobs than educated ones. The Rethuglican idea is that if it worked in the 30’s in Germany, it’ll work here too.
When people are afraid of gun violence, when they are kept desperate by stagnant wages and fear for their jobs, when they are worried about their children’s future because education is underfunded, or worried about paying off their student loans before they die, when they are under the cloud of a pandemic or cancer clusters or contaminated drinking water, or seeing the young men in their community targeted by extreme law enforcement and racial profiling… when people can be kept too afraid and too distracted to fight for their rights and for justice, Republikkkans see a clear path to seizing and retaining power, for that is their sole motivation.
Oh lord, Bex, I hadn’t thought of the comparison of statistics on school shootings versus fires. I don’t know if there has been more shootings than fires, but I feel that it is horribly likely that there have been more deaths from those shootings, than from fire. I gave your comment a Like, and would have given it more, it deserves it…but I wish SO much that the situation doesn’t make your comment so terribly true.

Anyone that wants an assault rifle must be crazy. No gun sales to crazies. Problem alleviated.

Life is not worth anything in the twisted logic of the RWNJ as only the unborn are defended.

I read that we had this same seemingly intractable conflict back in the middle 1800’s.

Yes, tragically, the epidemic of ‘deaths by firearms’ continues, as does the opiod crisis!

Republikkkans like the chaos.
