Sorry to burst a bubble with the comedy of this strip but the kids should not be thinking they’d be paid. The chores they are doing are everyday chores their mother does on a daily basis and she receives no pay at all. Thus, I say “Happy Mother’s Day” to all mother’s doing thankless jobs.
“On behalf of Mr. Moreau, Mrs. Johnston, and the Anti-Fascist Alliance, thank you for coming out tonight. Mr. Moreau has asked me to remind you that all winning bids must be paid upfront, and we are only accepting cash. First up on the auction block, we have two specimens named Michael and Elizabeth, but you can rename them whatever you like. They can purchased as a set or sold separately. Both are excellent house cleaners who will never entertain any idea of getting paid, and Michael has past experience in agricultural work. Again, these are two fine specimens. No scars, no visible injuries and examined personally by Mr. Moreau’s doctor. Open bid will start at $2,500, do I hear $3,000?”
Strip had me think aw they do that for mom, until last frame.Happy Mama’s Day to all moms. For me yes I had a nice Mama’s Day, better then last year as we had pizza to go. We ate out today, except for adult kids, too costly for the adult kids, one no job the other pt job.
Did your parents ever get paid cleaning after you Lizzy and Micheal? And cook for you everyday. Consider this as a nonpayment and the unconditional love they provide for them.
They both spontaneously had the same idea (they never agree on anything) to do something they’d never done before, and it just happened to be on Mothers Day?

Payment comes at breakfast, lunch and dinner time.
Payment comes when it starts to rain and you have a dry roof over your head.
Payment comes in winter when the heater kicks on.
Payment comes from getting you enrolled in school.
Payment comes when you need someone to talk to about a problem.
Payment comes with love.
Paid in full.

The most amazing part about this comic strip is that Michael and Elizabeth did not know it was Mother’s Day.

Mom passed away this year, at age 98. I updated the last verse to this song I wrote decades ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNfBZU_Qp1I

“Mother’s Day? I thought we were gonna get paid!” is one of the funniest punchlines ever on FBOFW. Happy Mother’s Day, moms and kids.

Your payment came in the form of a ‘thank you’ and a hug, best payment you can get from your mother. Happy Mother’s day.

The best way to do Mothers day is to do whatever Mothers say for at least that one day. Okay?

Certainly was not for nothing; you made room and board!

Is that an original song that Elizabeth is singing in the third panel?

My grandson mows my lawn for pay, but it’s worth it to see him behind the mower. Of course, I still have to do everything else.

What a let down, I thought they were doing all that without the usual complaining because it was Mother’s Day.
