Miss Nyman vs. Mrs. Blakeney – I loved them both.

… nor is a third grade teacher better than a first grade teacher.

… and not necessarily (in either case)

I wonder if that’s why so many of the courses I needed in college were only offered in the early morning; they all wanted to be first class professors.

The beginning of training to fit into the hierarchy structure, i.e., recognizing one’s place in the system.

Nope. It’s a progression. And not always a good one.

I always thought a first-grade teacher always had it easier than a third-grade teacher with getting a teacher’s diploma. The first-grade teacher only needed to know her “reading, riting and rithmetic” like counting to 10 on her fingers, to get the diploma. The third-grade teacher also had to learn more profound and esoteric things that are insubstantial thought inducing, such as knowing there is a silent w in the word writing.

Wait until you get to college, and find out that TAs do the actual teaching, and the professor you thought you’d have is busy applying for grant money or giving speeches for honoraria.

I only remember the name of one grade-school teacher, Mrs. Hotman. Probably because she tried, unsuccessfully, to change me from a lefty to a righty…
