    What’s True

Screenshots shared widely in February 2021 were authentic snapshots of a real online course on LinkedIn, featuring Robin DiAngelo and entitled “Confronting Racism.”

    What’s False

However, the presence of a Coca-Cola logo in a screenshot taken from LinkedIn does not prove that the video course featuring DiAngelo was required viewing for Coca-Cola employees. Coca-Cola has explicitly denied that the course, which included a section entitled “Try to be less white,” was part of the curriculum for its mandatory diversity, equity, and inclusion training.

    What’s Undetermined

We have not yet been able to corroborate Coca-Cola’s denial.

Try verifying your propaganda before repeating it, Gorrell.

It’s bad when you just don’t get it. It’s worse when you show people how much you don’t get it by publishing it to the world.

Wonder why he’s not complaining about a job description from “Newfields,” the former Indianapolis Museum of Art:

“Maximize unique programmatic opportunities, working closely with the curatorial, education and public programs divisions to animate the permanent collection galleries in innovative ways that attract a broader and more diverse audience _while maintaining the Museum’s traditional, core, white art audience; _

Nobody did a thing for over a month.

without the text at the bottom or @patjade ‘s explanation, I would have thought this was an advertisement for Keith Knight’s Woke on hulu

    Woke-a-cola has been done before:

are those on the right who are outraged by this mad about being told to confront their own unconscious biases, or are they just using the slide that says “try to be less white” to once again play the victim and claim that it’s actually white people that are being discriminated against.

I’m curious how many talented cartoonists of color have been rejected by Gocomics, while Gorrell is able to stay syndicated putting in the bare minimum of effort.

Maybe they should just run a slide that says “Be Less Gorrell and/or Bok”. That would work.

A large part of mainstream white American culture is based on trying to be black. Elvis Presley is just one example, though an important one. Go back to Al Jolson, who was a megastar of his time and who made his career in blackface. Some black language has been adopted by a lot of whites. Black sports figures are widely imitated. An influential book on the topic is Eric Lott’s “Love and Theft”; Bob Dylan used the title of the book as the title of an album. I’m not praising or blaming anyone, just describing an important part of American culture.

Everything bad thing that anyone has ever been done to me was by a white person. And I am a white person. That includes being robbed by someone with a gun in Flint, Michigan and assaulted outside a bar in Seattle. So I honestly wouldn’t mind if white people got their act together.

    Mixture: https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/coca-cola-training-less-white/

Linked in took it down. The company reported it was not a mandatory video for employees. IMO a lot of white people should work to be less white. And I’m white. And for all the fairies carrying torches, no I don’t anyone will be trying to replace you… maybe try to educate you.

I’m sure a lot of black Americans think this is humorous given that, throughout their lives, they have been told that they need to be “less black” if they wanted a job.

Displaying all the things the company is suggesting its employees not to. Well done Bob. Be less arrogant, be more humble, be less ignorant….you have a problem with this? One only has to enter the phrase ‘be less white’ into a search engine to see how the right wing has worked itself into a lather over this to understand how ingrained is white superiority. Nigel Farage (a right twit if ever there was one), said, “So, to be less white means you’ll be less arrogant, less ignorant — I mean, the list goes on: ‘try to be less white’,” he said. “And the inference here is clear, isn’t it? That white is bad; white means supremacist; white means you look down your noses at everybody else; white means you are guilty!” Missing entirely the point about ‘being less defensive’. So here we are, with the right displaying all the tendencies that the original slide suggested we ought to look at ourselves and see is arrogance when we believe one race, colour, creed, religion is better than others.

I’ve had a lot of training and practice in situational awareness and sizing up people. Yeah there are those here who will accuse me of “racial discrimination “ but they would be way off the mark. For myself and others who have been or are in my baliwick, it’s an automatic, primary reaction to evaluate surrounding individuals and tag them on the order of threat they represent. For me it’s an automatic almost unconscious reflex when entering a crowded area or meeting an individual. One’s demeanor and appearance is far more important in risk assessment than skin color. The white guy who is sweating, nervous and otherwise agitated goes to the top of the list over the cool calm black guy. The person sporting gang colors, an attitude and tats is up there over the person of any color who is well dressed and otherwise nonchalant. Note, these assessments are not absolutes and without error. They are fleeting and of no real importance unless something goes down and action has to be taken. Those who put skin color as a high denominator are ineffective, useless and quite frankly I don’t want to have my back or even work with. As far as the whole “woke” stuff is concerned it’s just another left wing, progressive “current thing” bit of nonsense used to divide people and cast shame where none is warranted.
