Right wingers ALWAYS seem to think that liberals hate free speech because some people, who call themselves liberal, think that some things shouldn’t be said at all. They’re right, in that some things should not be spoken, but that isn’t the same as saying it should be illegal. I won’t use some of the slang words for various nationalities, because I think they’re stupid attempts to demean people. And if you feel the need to use them, I’m very likely to either just leave, or tell you why and then leave. But I don’t hate your right to speak. I just hate that you’re so biased that speaking in such a way seems okay to you.

Whining about not having free speech whilst simultaneously exercising that right seems to lack a certain sense of awareness. Also a sense of irony.

GOPism? Neoconism? I have too much respect for our republic to call it republicanism.

Free speech has its limits. You can’t write lies about someone else, (libel); you can’t cry fire in a crowded theater; you can’t call for killing someone of the opposite party; you can’t call for insurrection against the United States.

All these people going on nationwide media to claim they’re being silenced are beyond absurd. Being silenced is when the Government puts nerve agent in your boxers to kill you not when a private company blocks your account because you can’t manage to follow the rules.

The right also claims to be for free markets as well. Why not a cartoon about Wall Street shutting down trading on stocks that the big hedge funds have shorted. Don’t they want the small investor to make money? Don’t they value smarts? As you can tell, I’m really enjoying the GameStop saga.

The more I follow U.S. politics, esp. of the destructive last 4 yrs, the more I appreciate our democracy here in Canada. . .

Freedom of expression in Canada is protected as a “fundamental freedom” by Section 2 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The Charter also permits the government to enforce “reasonable” limits. Hate speech, obscenity, and defamation are common categories of restricted speech in Canada.

This new attitude of “Freedumb” seems to have no regard for the rights of others, nor does it care who gets injured or killed. Hopefully this new administration in the U.S. can enforce limitations on this free-for-all lunacy.

Freedom of speech for me but not for thee… Lies vs truth. Conspiracies vs reality.

The Department of Homeland Security issued a national terrorism bulletin Wednesday warning of the lingering potential for violence from people motivated by antigovernment sentiment after President Joe Biden’s election, suggesting the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol may embolden extremists and set the stage for additional attacks.

Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona are the two Democratic senators who are blocking the Democrats from getting rid of the filibuster. Without it, the Democrats would be able to pass laws with a 50% vote, could ignore accommodating the Republicans and we could actually accomplish something. Their reasoning is that once the filibuster is gone, the Republicans would do the same thing once they were back in power. But, what’s to keep them from doing it whether the Democrats do or not? Democrats need to kill the filibuster, start fixing the country and make so much progress without the Republican obstruction that the voters never want to vote Republican again!!

But But But…Citizens Unites says money is speech, so is money free? The government, to the best of my knowledge, has not shut down anyone’s right to free speech within the already determined boundaries. Seditious speech is not protected. Incitement to violence is not protected. Or is Kelley whining about private companies enforcing or altering their guidelines — which is their right as private companies.

No, Mr. Kelly — these things are supposed to be paid for from the taxes we all pay, rather than those tax monies being spent on Republican graft and boondoggling and trying to turn our country into a theocracy. As for the free speech, you are not guaranteed to be able to use any social media company’s platform if you violate their TOS. This has been explained to you repeatedly. It would really help the Republican Party’s image if it could stop with the lying.

So S. Kelley, if you were permitted to create a cartoon which states your opinion including whatever got censored out of this one by the Democratic Party, what would you draw?

Oops, sorry. I forgot Democratic Party censor goons are standing just on the other side of your door waiting, to take you down to a basement torture session the minute you dare to try to say all the things they presently do not permit you to say.

Maybe you could smuggle some toons out to Russia or China or N Korea, anyplace that will publish your work and disseminate it to the entire world.

Free at last, free at last!
