Nancy would have been telling the truth (albeit in a misleading way) if she had gathered a second log. Since she only gathered one log, the use of the words “logs” and “them” makes her claim not only misleading but untruthful.
Surprisingly, she hasn’t yet mastered the art of being misleading while remaining truthful. She often manages to do this but not this time.
We might all be putting too much thought into the (pun accidental, I swear) logistics of this. … but they probably have access to a large stack of cut logs farther away from the house, and she just grabbed two. I’m fairly certain Fritzi would have heard if Nancy were running a chainsaw. Two logs isn’t enough for a fire, but it’s the perfect amount for this joke.
Ah, the work of unloading and stacking logs, sawing and splitting them, chopping kindling, and bringing it in to the stove. Irksome as anything, but once in a while the power would go out and we’d be KING OF THE WORLD with our toasty living room.

That should last them the whole winter, yeah?
As long as it ends in, say, the next fifteen minutes.
