You can’t just jump to the giving orders stage, one needs to get there gradually. Start off with, “Jones, RV is looking for you, he wants the inventory report immediately. Go get the inventory report. I’ll let him know you’re on your way.” Then work up from there.
I guess he does have the air of confident superiority and Jones did. At a place I use to work I overheard the boss tell a fellow employee that he an I were suppose to do a task. This fellow employee comes to me and said I am suppose to do it. So I ignored him. This boss did that a lot, instead of telling you to do something you would her it second hand from somebody else and hope he got it right. This was a small business only a dozen employees. This guy had an employee wash his car on company time, I wonder what the owner of the company would have said about that.
I didn’t know Brutus was in any type of management position. Maybe he isn’t and that’s why Jones told him to get it himself. Really hard to believe Veeblefester would trust him to direct other employees.

The second key is to actually have confident superiority.

I’ve known guys like him. He’s just a softie. In a real life emergency however, I would trust him to step in and take charge…..
