No Plugger will ever buy a stainless steel refrigerator.

opposite with me: more frozen vegetables (and some meats — currently mahi-mahi, chicken, and ground beef) and a few ice packs as well as my microwavable bean mask.

Those peas better be homegrown from the victory garden!

Sometimes the frozen vegetables can serve as ice packs

Get some pillow ticking (pluggers should know what that is), make a bag out of it big enough to hold a pound or two (depending on how big you want it) of uncooked rice. Put rice in. Sew up bag tightly. Now you’ve got a hot/cold pack – microwave for one minute or throw in freezer. Works well. Just be sure there’s nothing metallic in it – you wouldn’t like it if the metal made the microwave angry.

Our ice packs are in the chest freezer in the garage. That was very handy when we were making many day-trips, now not so much.

I make my own ice packs. Make a simple syrup and freeze in zip top bags. (I double bag for safety.) They are relatively flexible and hold the cold longer.

Bags of frozen peas or cut green beans make a pretty good “ice” pack because they conform to the shape of the knee, elbow, etc.

Pluggers don’t use peas for ice packs? No multi-purposing of food? :)

When PJ was alive, we had as many ice packs as frozen veggies in the freezer. Now that it’s just me, I’m down to a couple of ice packs in case the fridge goes kaput & I need to keep the stabby juices for my diabetes cold.

Stainless steel appliances are a pain to keep looking good. Everything shows on them, fingerprints, splashes from the in door water feature, etc.

Frozen peas (or corn) make great ice packs, because they shape to your ankle or whatever. Just wrap ‘em in a towel so you don’t get frostbite
