I’ve always heard you can breathe through snow, and even gain some insulation from freezing cold. It’s when it freezes over into solid ice you would be in trouble.

Me and my friends do that all the time, and yes, digging tunnels are very dangerous, especially if they’re icy.

This was just in the news a couple of weeks ago, a Boy Scout was digging a snow tunnel while camping and died when it collapsed on him.
