I’m fine with clowns as long as they’re not brandishing a deadly weapon and coming at me with a look of perversely cheerful menace.

But if you ask Sluggo, I’ll bet his answer would be his being an 8-year-old boy named Sluggo and having to go to a school class full of all girls! It’s been years since I have seen Sluggo actually having a male playmate. Actually I have ‘never’ seen Sluggo with any guy chum.

When the novel IT first came out, people were fascinated by the contradiction in having the monster be something as pleasant and friendly as a clown. These days, people see the movie poster and think “Oh, there’s a clown in it? I guess it’s a horror movie, then.”

It’s what you would say is your greatest fear, not your actual greatest fear.

I am not afraid of clowns. I do not like them, but I am not afraid.

My biggest fear is being like everyone else and accidently hurting a friend but also being hurt by my friends not being honest with me while avoiding clowns.

I like the punchline format in this one. You read it forwards, then you read panel 2 again (maybe in reverse order, I know I did). There’s the poignant irony that three of those kids are living a version (but not a horrid one) of their fears. Then you get back to Nancy, and the context makes the joke.
