Republicans* have now openly admitted that they hate democracy.

My wife, a dual Canada-US citizen now living in Vancouver BC, applied for her absentee ballot from Philadelphia (her last residence in the US) in August; no ballot, web site doesn’t show any action. Tried again in September; same. Called the County electoral registrar’s office and talked with someone (2 hrs wait) who promised to send one; same again.

Fortunately, there is a mechanism by which you can fill out a ballot (customized to your electoral area), put it in a secrecy envelope, put that envelope and a registration form (much the same as the original absentee ballot application) into another envelope (templates provided for both envelopes). Today, Monday, was Canadian Thanksgiving; she’ll be at the Post Office early Tuesday morning.

At least she won’t have to wait in a line for hours, as some do and will do in some places in the US. I think it’s a shame and a scandal that the country that calls itself the richest and best democracy messes up voting so badly. (Makes you think that it might not be just an accident, eh?)

There were over 5-1/2 million ballots already cast in the elections by October 7 based on reporting by states releasing that information. The Rethugs can try to suppress votes in a variety of ways but people are circumventing the efforts.

I live in Old Redneckistan. It was a massive chore just GETTING a mail-in ballot. I still don’t know if it got there.

I hand-carried my ballot to the county elections office. I did it just to piss-off Trump.

I registered my mail-in ballot with my county. On October 3, 2020, I received the following text: “This is a message from Kane Elections. Your ballot for the 2020 General Election was received and will be counted.” The text also contained instructions for obtaining additional information. Be sure to register your mail-in ballot if your county or state provides a registration service. Do it in memory of President Oneanddone.

The vote rigging lying Republican snake is suppressing the vote.

That has been the entire strategy of the Trump administration, and more importantly, the GOP. At first it’s death by a thousand paper cuts, small items that bend the rules to their favor…not illegal, but definitely immoral. When people get used to that, they push it a little farther.

We are now at straight up watching sitting senators speak about how democracy is not great when the majority doesn’t agree with their cult of personality.

They are actively doing voter drains, packing the courts, having one set of rules for “me” and a second set of rules for “thee”.

Sad, but yes, we’re there now. In 2020 America’s worse nightmare is at hand.

Of course, when the REPUBLICANS CHEAT and engage in VOTER SUPPRESSION, it’s just fine and dandy!

I live in Red Texas so I have to vote early in person. Love Republicans the way they show how against democracy they really are.

I love elephants! It’s a shame they represent such a pathetically crooked party. Does anyone know how elephants became the symbol of the GOP, and conversely how the donkey became the symbol of the Dems?

Odd how (at least where I live) Trump Republicans mailed out a whole bunch of Absentee Ballot Requests to every address in the book, even while claiming groups that do that cause fraud…

Do NOT mail in your ballot, if you have any reasonable… even somewhat difficult alternative. Drop it in a REAL† official drop box if there are any, or take it to your county clerk or other official. Watch while it’s put into the correct location to be counted, not “provisionally”.

† Members of the California GOP have put up boxes labeled  “Official Drop Box”. They are not… and the odds that any ballot deposited therein will be counted is very low at best. I’ve variously heard that they have been removed, that they are still in place, and that the folks who put them up are defying orders to take them down. But since it’s been done and in the news, no place is safe.

Why is it that the Republicans want to stop voting by mail? Is it because the Republicans are too dumb to vote by mail or is it they think they will be defeated in a fair free election? I mean at least some of those votes by mail just may be for Republicans as unlikely as that may seem to them.
