While I definitely appreciate Luckovich’s play on the torch theme, there does seem to be some confusion in the United States today about torches.
PROgressives prefer the one being hoisted aloft by Lady Liberty over the inscription by Emma Lazarus that ends with the famous words, “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
Trumpers prefer the Tiki torches of white supremacist thugs like the Proud Boys, Boogaloo Boys, Identity Evropa and others who carry Tiki torches along with the flags of the KKKonfederates and Nazis — literally the enemies of the United States that Union Soldiers and the ANTIFAscists of the United States Armed Forces crushed in the Civil War and World War II respectively. The message of Trump and these thuggish brutes who incited violence is: “GO BACK WHERE YOU CAME FROM.”
I’ll stand with Lady Liberty and the real Americans against these thuggish Nazis and Fascists every time.
Donald Trumps definition of a Republic: “political philosophy, movement, or regime that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition.” Strange from one who so often refers to AntiFa. /s
It’s all a bit reminiscent of Stephen King’s “The Stand”. A contagious plague, good lining up against evil, and an asshole who’s been set loose to burn. Or am I wrong?
I participate on the Comments sections of the Washington Post, NY Times and HuffPo with the my same handle. I’ve dusted them this morning with the “Trumpster fire” meme thanks to this cartoon.
A meme currently making the rounds is a simple picture of the dictionary entry for “trumpery”, which I will render here in text form, since GoComics doesn’t allow graphics:
trump´ẽr·y,n.; pl.trump´ẽr·ies, [Fr. tromperie, from tromper, to deceive, cheat.]
1. deceit; fraud. [Obs.]
2. anything calculated to deceive by false show; anything externally splendid but intrinsically of little value; worthless finery.
3. things worn out and of no value; useless matter; trifles; rubbish; nonsense.
This idolatrous trumpery and superstition. —South.
trump´ẽr·y,a. trifling; showy but worthless; trashy; paltry.
Donald Trump has announced that he and the First Lady are beginning their quarantine “process” after he was exposed to the covid-19 virus during travels this week on Airforce One and Marine One with just diagnosed presidential aide Hope Hicks.
Many of us voted for Hope and Change and now I understand an alternate meaning of Hope that even some of the hicks in The White House Administration might see a Change in their lives. Stay safe and wear a mask when permitted to do so. The life you save may be your own regardless what the Commander-in-Chief says. He’s a known liar according to some people . . . . . . . /s

I see they’re prepping the Trump coffin. Now to find an off-brand trash bag and a hill that overlooks a culvert.

Show the world on November 3, 2020 that POS-PINO Trump and his ideas do not represent the U.S.
