Darwin may not have used the word evolution, but he sure did bring the meaning of “stupid” to a whole other level…..

IIRC Johnny Carson used to say Nyctophobia is the inordinate fear of running full speed backwards into a doorknob while wearing a hospital gown.

I thought Nyctophobia was an extreme fear of New York City…

I once heard the mathematician Mo Gawdat present a very strong argument against the chance that the first life occurred spontaneously. It is in his book Solve for Happy: Engineer Your Path to Joy.

Oh Oh, this guy said that I was a Nyctophobiac, so I slapped him. I better go apologize in the morning.

It was on the ship because of a storm??? If there wasn’t a storm, how were they going to transport it?

I see: “Nyctophobia” is the clinical term. Less formal alternatives include “lygophobia,” “scotophobia,” and “achluophobia.”

It hadn’t occurred to me before that the Statue of Liberty would be shipped in so many pieces, but that makes sense.

And Nictophobia is an extreme fear of running into Gort…

It’s not the darkness that we are afraid of… it’s what’s in it, that we cannot see, that frightens us.

Darwin never said ‘survival of the fittest’ either.

He carefully didn’t use the word evolution in the text, but he did dare to use a form of the word – in fact the last word of the text is “evolved” – very daring.

The other interesting fact is that scientists basically panned his book, since it had so many scientific errors. But the book was quickly picked up by a lot of religious scholars. Without them, it would’ve been one more book in the ash heap of history. What irony.
