In my military travels, I picked up several languages. French, German, Spanish, Inuit, Polish, Norwegian, Arabic and, of course, computer. I’m illiterate in nine languages.
I’m 59. I started on Duolingo ~5 years ago. I am currently studying Spanish, French, Swedish, Italian, Dutch, and German, and have reached the point in Spanish and French where I can follow most news articles and get the point, although I don’t always understand every word.
I’m in no hurry, I’m not spending more than 20 minutes a day TOTAL. I’m having fun.
Just think of what a young man like Pete could do if he decided that he actually wanted to learn something rather than simply whine about how he didn’t do it already!
Sorry, but people claiming that it’s too late to learn irritate me.

Spanish is my second language whereas it teeter-totters between Portuguese and Japanese for third.
