just unleashing millions of fuzzy kittens across America would accomplish the same thing but make America great again FOR REAL.

No way, Teddy. No more funds for public parks. Cheney & Bush, then trumpie have removed preservation lands from government protection (Government IS the problem!) so than oil, mining and timber harvesting can flourish!

No doubt sports, popular music, and TV and movie “heroes” would be heavily represented. But even they are the focus controversy. Back to the drawing board, Monroe.

It’s absurd that these statues of traitors have been around in so many places for so long! Imagine if there were Statues of Guy Fawkes all over England for the last 400 years and they were only getting around to taking them down now!

Would anyone in England bemoan the removal of such a statue? I should hope not.

A new retelling of history where there were no villains/traitors as all that, can be, have been, whitewashed.

We need to be careful how we judge some of these historical figures. No one is perfect, and those who are recognized, are recognize for their contributions. Jefferson & Washington owned slaves; but they made major contributions to the creation of the US. Celebrate the great moments and honor those who made them. See each moment for the progress made there and don’t expect one person to do it all. Even Jackson’s statue, down in New Orleans, represents a great moment in maintaining American independence. That statue represents a victory, more than a man. A plaque could be added emphasizing the victory, perhaps downplaying the man.

That said, there is no place for commemorating Confederate Generals. Fighting against the United States, killing US soldiers, to keep a system of slavery is not a great deed, did not accomplish a great “thing”. Those statues should be retired to museums as lessons of what happens when you stir too much divisiveness in your population.

Trump ridiculed for plan to build a ‘National Garden of American Heroes’: ‘Surprised he didn’t include Zorro’

The president was roundly scorned on social media for his proposal, with many considering the whole idea a stunt, and others criticizing the choices of “heroes” Trump wanted to honor.

Reagan, Scalia and Billy Graham? But no Thurgood Marshall. And how about the first black president? I’m surprised Trump didn’t include himself, Ivanka, and a Russian hooker.

I kinda thought the National Park system was already basically our national “Garden of American Heroes”. I mean, have you SEEN Washington DC? It’s one big park/garden already.

Don’t need to go to all of the trouble to create a diversion – just let Trump sign an executive order that says “everything is great (due to me) – OR ELSE”…

Yeah. The statue of Lincoln with a half naked slave at his feet with the word “Emancipation” was another example of a jackass attempt to distract from what all those freed slaves and their descendants were about to experience for the next century.

There’s already a bizarro sculpture garden of US Presidents in Virginia, possibly now abandoned. A friend of mine went to see it, 20 or so years ago, when it was new, and said the cement works were already showing wear and tear. Somebody didn’t think it through. Which makes it an ideal place to randomly dump the rebel Generals and whatnot.

Here’s a thought: Maybe by including those generic soldier statues that the Connecticut company sold all over the south in the 20th century, there’d be enough to make a gigantic Civil War Chess Set, or at least one side of it! They could set it up incorrectly, just like in all the TV ads.

Clearly, there’s no stupid idea that hasn’t already been suggested… by a politician… in an effort to redirect public attention.

The “Era of Good Feelings” began in 1815 in the mood of victory that swept the nation at the end of the War of 1812. Exaltation replaced the bitter political divisions between Federalists and Republicans, between northern and southern states, and between east-coast cities and settlers on the western frontier.
