I wonder if the teacher is related to Doctor Dolittle.
The teacher’s word bubble being slightly obscured is a clever touch. (Nancy is trying, but failing, to zone her out.)
As a one-time math teacher, I will say that any “D” student can use an electronic calculator without even understanding what he/she did. Use of a slide rule or abacus…..that takes brains.

Math has no real world application. Just ask an engineer. Or an accountant.
