In some places it is legal to not wear a mask outdoors if you are not near people.

You don’t need to wear a mask if you’re in your yard by yourself.

I believe in wearing a mask to protect people, but it is ridiculous to have to wear one in your own yard were there isn’t anyone anywhere near you.

Also it is ridiculous for Lio’s Dad to have to wear one outside with Lio like this, especially since they don’t do such when in inside.

I think of masks as caring for others as well as myself; furthermore, I consider wearing my mask to be an act of patriotism.

Lio’s dad does not need a mask to just go outside to get his newspaper, or even to work in his yard. It is not needed for outdoor activities with no one in close proximity. I put mine on before entering a store and take it off when I am a safe distance from the door on the way out. And silly to see people wearing masks while in their cars by themselves!

I think Lio is not aiming his sign at Dad, but at others, whose homes he may pass. Dad’s just disturbed at Lio’s choice of compatriots and their reminder of what is happening elsewhere. He’d probably have the same reaction after reading the paper.
