New Gingrich: Honey, I regret that I have only one more marriage to give for my country. Punk: One family value at a time, please! Newt Gingrich claims that his extramarital affairs were caused by his extreme patriotism...
^It’s the hypocrisy that’s more offensive… As you say, the double standard that the Republicans were applying.
Henry Hyde - the leader of the House lynch mob - when caught out lying about his affairs replied “I was young and foolish.” But he was Clinton’s age when he had his, and he broke up 2 marriages.
Byrd’s association with the Klan was reprehensible, but he took responsibility for it and disowned that part of this past.

Newt, on the other hand, tries to excuse his behavior by making a prima facie idiotic argument. (Do you really want to defend him on patriotic grounds, as he claims?)
In the case of Broaddrick (note the correct spelling), nothing ever came of her accusations in court. It’s impossible for any of us to know what really transpired–if anything–between her and Clinton, whereas it is well documented and admitted by Gingrich that he was having an affair at the time of the impeachment proceedings against Clinton. Pure hypocrisy, no matter how you slice it.
^While both Clinton and Gingrich are despicable people for their actions, remember that Clinton was not impeached for having an affair. He was impeached for committing the felony of lying about it to federal investigators under oath.
Yeah been there…and then the conservatives cheered when Dubya commuted Scooter Libby’s sentence after he was convicted in a court of law after lying under oath.
As for you parrot-boy, it’s the other way around. It’s the Repubs who get standing ovations when they can’t keep it zipped. ( Vitter and Ensign )
Oh, and Newtie was having those affairs WHILE he was bashing Clinton over Monica.
And WHY was it necessary to put Clinton under oath about this in the first place?
I have to agree that Pat’s a bit late out of the gate on this one. If a particular gag shows up in six different cartoons within the first 48 hours or so, it’s kind of pointless to accuse any one of them of lacking originality, but if you’re gonna bring it up a week after everyone else you ought to have something different to say…
There was a time when denying an affair with an unmarried woman was considered to be “saving her reputation”. While the affair itself was reprehensible, denying it was not. We seem to have things the other way ‘round now.

I thought sex was ok (outside of marriage) when it was Bill Clinton?
Double standard?

Doesn’t matter if it’s sex or politics; when you’re being crapped on, one fat turd’s the same as the next.

parrot,
Go easy on the talking points.

^Lying under oath for…Blow jobs in the house! Let’s get’em! Much more sinister than lying about WMDs.

Don’t say Gingrich is too old - they said that about Ronnie, and he still made it through two terms.

Does anyone remember John Edwards?
Motivemagus about 13 years ago
^Who cares, landshark? Edwards isn’t running for president claiming that his adultery was actually an act of patriotism and thus a virtue. Newt is.
