The companies push for you to have a landline.
If you dial 911 from a landline, police/fire/rescue can get to you very quickly. Not so with a cell.

The cable company will tell you they are giving you a landline, but what they’re really doing is setting up a cable-based telephone. If the power goes out, you won’t be able to use it. A REAL landline will still work in a power failure.
