Agency: “Gus, here is what we were able to collect in rents. By the way you are down to two tenants while we try to get replacements for those we booted for lack of payment.” Gus, would much rather deal with the people decently and just boot the ones spewing BS and trying to take advantage of the current situation. Scammers will get what they deserve.

If Gus’ properties are paid for, he can afford to be understanding and patient. But if he has mortgages on them then he’s basically in the same boat as his tenants.

I’d rather deal with Gus than with some agency. You’re not likely to get much empathy (let alone flexibility) from an agency. Capitalism doesn’t run on empathy.

Love this strip. First panel shows Gus talking to a tennant. Second panel shows him listening. Third panel shows him trying to figure things out, with the books pushed away.

I had some rentals and managed them myself. I will never do that again.

Gus is walking the walk. He has been there himself.

The question is will ‘he’ be able to weather the storm financially like his tenants which he seems to be worrying about.

Always happy to see Gus and the kids back in the story line even if it is a bit of a downer.

I advise everyone not to read the Capitalism vs Communism discussion in this section. To quote Monty Python, “It s a silly place.”

(Understanding this is a comic strip) Gus seems to be feeling the pain of his tenants more than his own.

Gus is playing the part of George Bailey today so Mr. Potter doesn’t kick the locals out of their homes for not paying rent!

Leaving aside that Gus is a cartoon – any landlord right now would rather have tenants in their buildings who will eventually payback what is owed, than have empty units. There will always be deadbeats, but most people will hold up their end of the bargain when things improve.

Because they would be obligated to kick them out. Gus is eating the loss.
