For too many of “our” “betters”, our freedom is the freedom to suffer. Their freedom, of course, is the freedom to spend how much they want for what they want whenever they want. Including politicians.
In 1980 I ran (unsuccessfully) for the legislature and the “lead v. steel” shot issue consumed a great deal of my time. The worst was a “Ducks Unlimited” meeting where the two sides just yelled at each other until they got tired of yelling at each other, and then they yelled at me because I didn’t have a magic solution to make both sides happy. I did try to point out that lead shot might be a long term limitation to “Ducks Unlimited” and that perhaps that might be something to think about, but was roundly criticized for trying to be “on both sides of the issue”. Not sure what that was about, but I can tell you that I did not win any votes that night. Nor did I win many votes on election night, come to think of it. In your campaign for Congress, beware of issues where people feel strongly but can’t reason to a solution!
Here’s an idea…Since According to the 2nd. Amendment, people are free to Keep and Bear Arms, fine, let them. BUT, put a $500 a box Federal Tax on ALL AMMUNITION, and a $1500 a unit Tax on ALL reloading machines, with the money ONLY to be used to pay down the National Debt.
The cartoon illustrated collateral damage from the gun sector. What about the collateral damage from wind turbines? Eagles have right to carry an imbedded turbine blade? Shouldn’t something be done about that?

Why should we humans be the only ones who suffer the unintended consequences of the “freedom” of gun violence?

Locally, a Republican legislator is holding up funds to clear lead pellets from Minnesota lakes.

Having the freedom to choose, but not refuse, what an imbecile feels is great is not really freedom at all.

The New Republican ideology. The rich are free to loot the economy and pillage the environment. The rest of us are free to die.

City expansion has shut down several gun clubs. Developers thought they got a bargain until they found out how much lead cleanup would cost.
