Nobody ever asks, why did the kid chop down the tree in the first place?

The Cherry Tree story is, in and of itself, a complete fiction, so I guess this is now metamythology….

However, Parson Weems, who started this fable, was a liar.

Johnny remembered his school lessons and replied, “I cannot tell a lie, father, I did it.” Whereupon his dad pulled off his belt and gave johnny what for. Crying, Johnny said. “George Washington’s dad didn’t whup him for cutting down the cherry tree.” And dad answered, “George Washington’s pa wasn’t sitting in the cherry tree.”…

Kid had an Axe in his hand and a Gleam in his eye.

Also a habit of roaming around the house with it at night while everyone else was sleeping.

YES! Kid with an axe in his hand? I wouldn’t want to mess around with him, ya know? First, the little cherry tree, then he moves on up to other prey….
