Quite sad. They are paying, in part, for our contributions to the issue. And what they are facing now will be much like what our great grandchildren may face.
There are folks who pitch fits about how cruel zoos are, but the sad fact it that many creatures no longer exist in the wild; Zoo breeding programs are all that keep these animals from extinction.
Interesting that we take a cute cuddly (they are not) koala as a symbol to be concerned about.. and don’t care about all the worms.. ants.. mice.. rats.. toads.. mosquitoes.. that also perished.
Indeed, hundreds of species are affected by these fires, animal, plant, vertebrates, invertebrates, even avian. While after the fire, many of the plants will rebound fairly quickly, not so the critters. And Climate change is making that resilience of plants a question mark in the very near future. Cute does get our attention, but our lives, and existence as a species, depends on thousands of species we’re losing, without notice in the media. These intense fires are threatening soil organisms for example, and without viable soils, agriculture, and everything else, succombs.
Moronic climate change deniers can never be convinced by facts or anything else. We need to find a way to bypass those idiots and fix our energy production system.

Deniers would shout, “Adapt or die!” What, grow asbestos fur?

I read that the wild koala is in danger of extinction due to these wildfires. I guess mankind is next if we don’t manage to correct global warming.

seems odd that the US is the only foreign country in Australia giving help with the fires. Salvation Army is taking donations.
