Forget the cables. You are missing the whole point of the story, that owning a car is not always that fun, when cold weather problems kick in.

Don’t Canadians have electrically defrosted rear windows? I thought they’d know about cold weather.

And this is why I use the bus, the train and the tram instead.

The Finns know what they’re on about, creating winter cycle paths.

Lynn’s Comments: My mother was understanding enough to know that I wanted to be dropped off away from the mall or the theatre so my friends would think I’d come by bus or had walked to town. Now, that’s a cool mom.

Public transportation is a paradox. There would be more of it if people would use it, but people don’t use it because there is not enough of it.

I agree with the kids. I know snow and ice are a pain, but waiting for a bus or a ride in the snow and ice is worse.

I live in Spain, haven´t seen a frozen screen in years. Owning a car here is pretty good, road taxes 50€ a year, cheap(ish) fuel, garage (shop) labour only 25€ an hour.

For years, a high school near me used to have a sign pointing to “Parent Drop-off.” They’ve since corrected it to “Student Drop-off.” I still have images in my head of parents waving as their kids drove off.

Why bother with a car? Remember, you are saving for a motorcycle, Michael!

when my son was home for the summer after his first year of college, he slept all day and played RPGs all night. then he started getting phone calls about the homecoming committee he was on, and I had to wake him up to take them. after one such call, he staggered back to bed, saying “I can’t wait until I’m an adult and have no responsibilities.” that was 30 years ago, and no, I haven’t let him forget it! :D

At the conclusion of the strip,Lynn said a grown-up April moved to Calgary. Her love of horses had her working with “The STampede”.I keep reding that the HIGH temperature in Calgary is 10 below zero;with Winnipeg not much better.Boy,she must REALLY love horses!!And by contrast,it’s a nice, warm 30 degrees above in Toronto

It’s not much fun owning a car and paying maintenance and repair bills, either.

A lot of the comments I’ve seen here today remind me of that old adage, “Youth is wasted on the young.”

Same reason I loathe snow. It might look enticing and all in a Norman Rockwell-type portrait. But shoveling it and driving in it make it lose its appeal rather quickly.

Considering how he doesn’t take care of anything else well his room being one of them…..he’s in for a very rude awakening when he gets a car. I can see lots of car problems due to his lack of “maintenance”.

I remember a date I had with a guy I liked, and I thought he liked me. We were 14 or 15. His dad dropped us off at the school where the dance was held. I thought we had a really good time, but after that, he barely talked to me. This was well before cell phones, but it was the equivalent of ghosting me.

It was many years later that I learned he was embarrassed that his dad drove us. Seemed like a stupid reason to stop talking to a girl. I thought it beat the heck out of walking.
