You have to escape reality sometimes.

Everyone’s been wondering what country my avatar depicts. Now with this new virus running rampant and the map of the country it originated in, they should have their answer. And the part of the country colored red? That’s where the Uyghurs live.

A fantasy world is great place to go and recharge! Just don’t try to live there.

My husband has a little “town” where he displays some of his die cast cars. He & I have “populated” a lot of the houses, giving them families, complete with backstories. When we were younger, didn’t have kids & had more time, we even created a set of dice-rolls to add specifics, like eye and hair color, how many kids, etc. Some of our friends even joined in. The town is still up. My husband gave each of the girls a house to populate, so the game is still going, somewhat.

The real fun in model railroading is in the building of it!

Lynn’s Comments: My husband had an amazing model railway set up in our home. When it became too much for the basement, he built another outside—one you could ride on! The idea for this came when we went to visit Ollie Johnston, one of the “9 old men” of Disney fame. Ollie’s ride-on railway was the inspiration for Walt Disney’s train obsession leading to his creation of the Disneyland theme park. It was also the catalyst for our outdoor railway–something our friends’ and neighbours’ kids will remember for the rest of their lives.

Well getting back to the comic strip, I think it’s cool for men to have hobbies such as John playing with his trains! And I’m glad Lynn Johnston depicts Elly as a nice and understanding wife who doesn’t ridicule and demean her husband. To me, that’s why in the American culture, I find that’s why there are so many separations and divorces. I say if the boyfriend or husband isn’t cheating on the wife, or he’s like Andy Capp, constantly at the bar and coming home drunk, stinking and being a PITA, let the man be himself!

It’s so lovely when couples have moments to just enjoy each other and the moment, before they have to get back to the hard work of reality.

When do they crash into one another?

Grown-ups have their toys, the same as kids. The only difference is the price.

Notice that the last time Lynn did this in May 31, 2019, the railroad was built into the laundry room. This time it appears to be in the garage. Somewhere in there, Lynn wised up and realized how ridiculous the idea was that the model trains could be folded against a wall while doing laundry.

Model railroaders and equestrians are the best type of people to be around!

Enjoy it while you can. You’ll have to sacrifice it sooner or later.

It’s sad to know in the real world they divorced.
