Our German Shepherd wouldn’t take his medication. So I just lay on the floor next to him, his medication in my open hand and in a minute he licked it up.
Wrap in cheese. Let dog see you have cheese in other hand too. He will swallow cheese pill because he wants other piece of cheese. Works with my little dog and large pills.
My 65 pound dog takes pills pretty easily. My 50 pound dog hasn’t needed any, fortunately. (Knock on wood!) A trick I used in the past with a different dog was to make up some sugar water, squirt just a touch in his mouth with a syringe (non-needle type), put in the pill, give him another squirt and Voila! (Or Viola, if you prefer). Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down.
I’ve been lucky. Never really had a problem with big dogs. Shepherd, doberman, dane, rotty no prob. Small dogs? Most were ok, but if they didn’t want it, it was hard to catch them.
I forget now which one it was, but one of our dogs was an absolute genius at eating everything AROUND the pill then ejecting the pill onto the floor. That’s when I got a pill crusher from our local pharmacy.
Wrap cheese around it, or a piece of meat, or peanut butter, heck, the German Shepherds we had would have gulped it down before realizing it was a pill.

It would be even worse if the pill was in suppository form!

This seems like an excellent task for the Adventurer’s spouse.

Pill in the center of a hot dog. Gulped down with gusto.

We thought the cheese trick had worked with our sheltie, until we found the pill urped up behind the coach.

Try a Pitbull next – they have larger mouths so it should be easier…
