I made Ds and Fs in history (among other subjects) in high school, but that’s never been a problem since. No prospective employer has ever asked me about the War of 1812 or the Magna Carta.

Considering some of the questions (see yesterday’s Peanuts), a D- doesn’t seem that bad!

Actually that’s a very good attitude, I struggled greatly in school and it took me a long time to understand that it wasn’t my fault, I’m now 60 in great health, own a home and helped raise an awesome young man, life is good. :))

I hated history until I met a sergeant in the Marine Corps who brought history alive for me. I then read Graves’ I Claudius and Claudius the God, then Suetonius on the Roman emperors, and Winston Churchill’s “History of the English Speaking Peoples.” Have loved history ever since and realized that it is the flow of history rather than what this or that king did that makes it interesting.

That is such an important point Patty makes. I think we would all have a greater sense of equanimity if we learned to shrug off minor annoyances—a dinged fender, the cable being out, a delayed flight—focusing instead on the truly important things, like arriving at our destination safely and enjoying good health. Good advice Peppermint Patty!!
