It’s like having an obscene “Tickle Me Elmo”, with lies and foul language spouting at random.

Today, I had a pleasant (though shallow) conversation at the grocery store w/ someone who seemed to be a right winger. After a bit, when he made an overture of talking about how things have gone all wrong in this country in the last 15 years or so, I dodged… and it stayed pleasant while we wished each other well and walked away in different directions. The problem is: I don’t really like shallow conversation, no matter how pleasant. And I’m pretty sure that if we had gotten down to brass tacks, it would have left the “pleasant zone” in very short order.

Short of violence, talking to each other is all we got.

I know I’ve posted it before, but we have a neighbor who blamed President Obama for all the rain we had earlier. He claimed the pollution was holding the moisture up in the air, but since President Obama had “cleaned the skies” all that moisture was coming down in buckets. Never mind the fact that trump had been president for two years at the time of this conversation, and had undone most of the gains. Ah, the mind of a trumpkin.

There is at least one commenter here that I agree with most of the time, but they believe all of the false propaganda about Muslims.

I have relatives that I get along well with in person, but argue about Trump on Facebook; one blocked me but we still get along great in per.

I don’t think we should cut off communication with people like this since I am an optimist and still hope to influence them, even a little.

Bush 43 committed war crimes. There are alleged religious leaders that preach hatred and have a horrible influence on others. Trump, Moscow Mitch, Lindsey Graham and those that hurt people to accomplish their political goals are despicable. They don’t deserve civility, much less friendship from those of us that know better.

Sadly, a similar cartoon could be created about zealots of every political stripe. Trump supporters do not hold a monopoly on hate, misinformation and narrow-mindedness.

In the same was that responsible, rational news media organizations (e.g., NPR, BBC, NYT) sought for a long time for a way to report on OL’ Punkinheads’s lies (specious claims of agency for other’s accomplishments, disavowal of responsibility for his own gaffs and failures, distorted “quotes”, fear mongering, racist behavior, hate speech, etc., etc.) without actually using the supposedly inflammatory but accurate “L” word, I have sought to unearth a reasonable, rational explanation as to why anyone could support such a weak, disgusting, parasitic excuse for a national leader. Now these news media have — finally! — given up on euphemisms and circumlocution; they have started to use the verboten, but 100% apt, “L” word. In the same way I’ve given up the search for a rationale as why the 90% of the GOP supports Ol’ Punkinhead. The reason is that no rationale is involved. It’s very simple: Ol’ Punkinhead’s supporters are either stupid of they are greedy rich bastards, or they are both. And that is a deplorable state of affairs, indeed.

It is highly questionable that the Nitwit-in-Chief and his supporters can claim to be human. So talking with one of a different point of view is like tilting at windmills. /s (:

I think Ellen meant someone you can have a reasoned discussion with. That leaves out anyone wearing a MAGA hat.

I’m a moderate, and I have friends who are liberal, conservative, or moderate—and not necessarily the most among the moderates. I could NEVER be friends with somebody who supports a career criminal and traitor—because morals, ethics, intelligence, patriotism, and sanity.

Pleasant zone: I’ll have to add that to my list of zones. Twilight zone, Phantom Zone, Neutral Zone, No Parking Zone, Pleasant Zone, etc.
