I used to have a particular pipe that I would take with me on a walk with our dog, and when she would see me pick up that pipe, she would start getting excited about going on the walk… even before I would find her leash. When she then saw the leash, she would virtually start wiggling out of her skin in excited anticipation.

Dogs are observant of our behaviors.
