I’d say that a Plugger never reads the “Obituaries” section of his paper because it’s too depressing and reminds him or her of how little time on Earth he or she has left.:/
My late husband read them every day, local plus places he used to live. He wanted to know when he lost another friend & also to make sure he wasn’t there.
“Pluggers and their friends are all dying” is a perennial and beloved running gag in this strip, but you have to respect today’s take on it: if a plugger lives long enough, not only will all his friends die, but he’ll get to see all the cultural touchstones that tethered him to a wider society die off as well, only to be replaced by strange and alienating newcomers!
Aww, geez, c’mon now! This-one kinda hurts! (And although I’m not proud of it, it’s true..and I’m the guiltiest of all.) But, on the OTHER-hand? I’ve yet to find my-own in there, yet. Maybe I should get a better-set of readin’ glasses, though? You know..just-in-case…! ☺
I googled my name some time back and saw an obituary of a guy with the same name as mine. I printed it out took it to my boss and asked if I could have the day off I was dead tired.
The Broadcast Baby Boom And Resulting History: Because of the various events that happened mucho years back, we had an explosion of celebrities come on the scene, musicians, actors, shakers and movers, who are all now, err, expiring. Which is so sad.

The same is true if you watch the Oscars, the Emmys or the Grammys. Who are those people.
