How many of those are veterans with PTSD? How many are mentally ill patients with no access to health care? How many homeless families were foreclosed upon by predatory banks? How many are addicted to opiods pushed by Big Pharma? How many are there because of the GOP’s elitism?
I would like to hear some of the details of the GOP’s plan to end homelessness. Certainly, Varvel would not point the problem without having a comprehensive workable solution at the ready.
Anybody remember the (very) old SNL when Chevy Chase would say to Jane Curtin “Jane you ignorant slut”? Well, to paraphrase, Varvel, you ignorant toady. A quick review of history and (gasp) the FACTS will tell you this is St Ronnie’s legacy. It amazes me how many people have drunk the kool aid
California cities controlled by Demonrats have created a green light for the derilicts of the world looking for handouts. Chicago, New York and Seattle have similar problems without the good climate.
I thought this was the greatest economy, highest unemployment in the history of Republican government.
Why are there so many homeless people, do you think Republicans care at all?
Why blame Dems for anything when Republicans have been running this country into the ground like a 3rd world dictatorship for over 2 years.
Maybe Republicans could divert some of the tax breaks for billionaires and military overspend and give some to the poor. Ha, that will NEVER happen. They would rather borrow money from China and give it to rich people.
So, according to Varvel, only ‘Democrats’ are mentally ill, addicted to drugs, impoverished, or suffer from a variety of inequities. He shows what ‘compassionate conservatives’ really think and believe!
Mr. Varvel. There’s a consequence to consolidating the nation’s wealth into the hands of the few. I don’t think we can blame the Democrats for that. Or at least, not entirely.
This problem arose in California when St. Ronald of Reagan, guv at the time, decided it was a good idea to close a lot of mental health hospitals. Thanks Ronnie
We in California welcome any and all to Our Golden Gate. With 40,000,000 here now what’s a few hundred thousand more ? We have whatever they need bring it on take care of Vets first please
Los Angeles should apply the Republican solution: Give them all one-way bus tickets to Florida and 24 hrs to get out of town or be arrested and sent to Trump Camps.
And Chicago. And NYC. And SF. And a host of other blue cities.
Complain all you want, he has a valid point. Between sanctuary policies and the refusal to handle the street people leaving needles and “deposits” all over the place, city level politicians are demonstrating an inability to govern.
I did the research last time a cartoon like this came by: LA, Washington DC and New York city all have the same percentage of homeless (to within 0.1%). And it’s smaller than a some other cities (true, it’s also larger than several others).
Orange County btw is very Right, as is the area south. On homelessness? My folks bought a house in 68 for $45, 000, along came Reagan and the “revolution” in California, and the house sold 20 years later for $1,600,000. Housing is UNaffordable to minimum wage folks in MOST OF THE COUNTRY! (Rent or buy) Inflation has not followed with wages.
All cities and I bet small towns have homeless problems and it will never get better until we extend help to all, without judging the morality and value of those needing help. Some just need a boost to get back on their feet or an affordable place to live, some have mental health issues. We need to stop punishing those in need just because there will be some who will work the system.
Republican cities say the homeless, “Don’t come here; we’ll let you starve in the streets.”
Democrat cities say, “Come here and we’ll lend you a helping hand.”
And for some strange reason, the homeless go to Democrat cities. Must be because of Andylit’s “city level politicians…demonstrating an inability to govern” or some other failed Democrat policies. Or something.

And none of those homeless migrated to LA due to the warmer weather, right Gary?

Seems like LA’s problem is a result of successive Republican administrations and their favorable climate.

The world’s richest country has homeless people living on the street. Disgraceful.

Poor Varvel. He must have stayed up too late last night. Has his blinders on. Or perhaps he’s trying for irony. True Believer (by Eric Hoffer)

If California was a bit more republican leaning the trump would be building a wall to keep that scum out.
