My uncle worked at a shipyard near Jacksonville. Work was down so they laid off 90% of the workers. At the end of the year they had turned out more than twice the work than the normal years.
“Uncle Junior, does that mean 90% weren’t working at all?”
“More than that. The ones left just finally got to work.”
I don’t favor starvation (as you can see) but it is a great incentive to get to work.
I’m a 69 year old civil service worker who went into debt to get trained to write zoning codes, and after 30 years now spend most of my time fielding calls from angry citizens who want my employer to force their neighbor to (pick one) stop building a fence on the caller’s alleged property, stop taking down a tree on the caller’s alleged property, allow the caller to put up a shed on swampland or land that serves as the drainfield for a septic tank, allow the caller to use his home as a car repair business, etcetera). I have to return calls within 24 hours, whether I can solve the problem or not. Not all civil service workers are lazy slugs, but at this point in my life I would never recommend taking a job working for local government, now that everyone believes that those employed by local government are nothing but obstructions to their right to paradise…

So, space aliens are no better than humans, eh. Just what the ancient astronaut theorists had always suspected.

I was part of the 1/3 that did the work. Amazing how many of the 2/3 hated us for making them look bad.

Went to work in local USPS office when I got out of Army in ’68. After two weeks, I was told by older works to slow down.

A visitor to our HQ once asked our CEO how many people work here. “About half”, he said.
