And the disaster WILL continue until Jan. 2021, when the long national nightmare will come to an end, and America can start to picu up the pieces from the devastation of the last 4 years…
This is why we cannot be permissive of fascists, or indeed anyone who would try to control America or the free world. The pain continues well beyond their overthrow.
The problem is that there is no shortage of disasters. We move on not because the problem is solved, but because there is another one that demands attention. Americans give more aid in disasters than any other country. I’m not saying it’s enough, but we can’t make all the problems of the world go away. This is America, not Heaven, and we aren’t God. Don’t blame America specifically, it’s not fair.
We have people in this very country who are at this moment being damaged by severe malnutrition, our failure to provide basic health services, inadequate educational resources, etc. It’s called childhood poverty and it is a continuing disaster for the nation.
“Shake off the effects of disaster”.. But you are still causing it with embargoes on your enemies. Innocent folk.. like your mom during the Nazi occupation.. are suffering.. because of embargoes.. and they die because of (mostly) American led policy.
Very sad. Took the German army about 6 weeks to overrun France. So much for French inter-war preparation… with terrible consequences for all… including French Jews betrayed by their neighbors.
Ted, I’m sorry. This is one of the most personal and moving strips you’ve done, and it moved me to tears. Thank you for your courage in sharing this with us. As a fellow cartoonist, and a guy who lost his beloved mother a month ago – you inspire me to get more authentic (or something) with my themes. Tally ho!

Very sad and very well said. And there are those that turn away history by denying the events. Sick!

It is so easy to turn away when attention moves elsewhere. Thank you for opening up enough to break my heart and remind me that the disaster goes on.

The disaster does indeed go on, and I’m immeasurably sorry that that’s so.
Even were there no other reason to end psychopathic hegemony, your mum’s experience would be enough, Ted.
