Rule I live by (59 years young):

“You don’t stop having fun because you get older.

You get older because you stopped having fun."

Life is short (it really is!). Make good use of the time.

I am 45, married, have two kids. I still don’t know what I want to be when I’m grown up. And I am no longer sure that this will ever happen.

When I retired I joined a gym and hired a personal trainer. Best investment of my life. When in doubt, hire an expert.

A few years ago, my brother told me he bought a Superman comic on eBay, an “imaginary” story that we both remembered fondly from when we were kids in the 1960s. But he was disappointed when he read it. “I can’t believe I was ever into this stuff,” he said. I felt sorry for him.

That’s why retirement is great! You get to be a kid again and indulge your hobbies and passions. You might have to modify the athletic ones, but so what? It’s all about having fun, and hopefully, at this stage of life, you have the money to go with it. You certainly have TIME.

A story in the paper this morning. Originally published in The Conversation “most older adults feel 20 years younger than their chronological age”. I totally agree!

That is so true. We spend a lot of time trying to make work fun and avoid ‘playing’ because it wastes time. Of course this is all incumbent on having a job to work at in the first place. No Job = no pay = no play.

And that is what every adult who goes and does Cosplay Says, that games, that attends fandom conventions like Comicon, DragonCon, or FWA. Never to old to have fun.

Some time ago my daughter came storming in complaining how childish her boy friend was. My reply “Um. . Sweetheart, I hate to tell you but guys never really grown up.” She said “You mean this is as good as it gets!? Mom?” Mom “Dad is right, I’m afraid.” Me “The only difference between men and boys is the price of their toys.”

Looks like he may be going to get a little fun-play in bed before they go to sleep!

Growing OLD is mandatory, but growing UP is optional.

I’d much rather a husband plays with toys than looking for “fun” somewhere else.
