Hymie the robot from Get Smart was pretty funny. Data from Star Trek had his moments has well.

It was a little amusing… the first time. By time #3, it won’t be.

Last I heard, attempts to merely write jokes with the use of AI were feeble, at best.

Drones, robots, robotoids and androids. Androids can function on the same level as a human, and may even look like them or some other living species. Quester was one such as is Data and Lore. Reina was another. Robbie was more robotoid than robot. The B-9 Robot of LIS became a Robotoid over time.

In the series and movies Ghost In The Shell there were robots, androids, cyborgs and A.I. approaching human levels of intelligence and thought like with the Tachikomas. Up to and including sacrificing themselves to save others. (They used their satellite to stop a nuclear attack by the American Empire on a part of Japan. Sadly what happened was serendipitous and not repeated.

My favorite parts of the visuals here are the huge eyeball and the robotic cap.
