I grew up in a rural area where we were told we were never more than a hundred yards from a snake of some sort, and yet I only remember actually seeing one once or twice in the 20 years I lived there.
According to what I was told in jungle survival school, there are 175 species of snake in the Philippines. 174 are poisonous and the other one swallows you whole.
