Unfortunately, Trump is not just hammering his own head. He is taking hostages. He said HE would shut down the government, HE would be the one to do it. HE would take the “mantle” of the shutdown and would not blame Democrats.

And he did. Republicans and Democrats had a deal. Trump agreed to it. Mitch McConnell confidently announced there would be no shutdown, and the senate passed the agreed-upon deal UNANIMOUSLY by voice vote.

Then Trump did what he said he would (for once). He shut down the government. He took his hostages. He “took the mantle” of the shutdown which HE OWNS. And now he wants to (as usual) break his word and blame the Democrats.

He is hammering the heads of 800,000 federal employees not being paid, causing all of THEM to have the bumps on their heads, as well as all their families, all the private sector federal contractors and the other businesses that serve federal employees that are losing money they will never get back.

We are all going to suffer. Trump whines about gangs like MS-13 and terrorists entering the country, yet FBI agents are not being paid and can not buy the supplies they need to protect us from terrorists and gangs,

Mitch McConnell said, referring to the last time the government was shut down, “you don’t learn anything from the second kick of a mule.” Well Mitch, as Bush said, “is our children learning?”

So it turns out that the person that Stable Genius Tя☭mp is shooting in the middle of 5th Ave. is himself, in that foot with “bone spurs,” and in the mouth…

Trump reminds me of a sleazy salesmen on a low-end used car lot who isn’t authorized to lower the price of a car he’s desperate to sell, so he tries to sweeten the deal by throwing in some coupons for car washes and oil changes.

He should be sued, personally, for back pay, pain and suffering, and interests, by everyone. EVERYONE.

Get the people back to work! Then, if border security really means anything in the White House, listen to our people at the border checkpoints, our ports and airports. Supply them with the working equipment they’ve been screaming for-the scanning machines, working truck x-ray machines, the people they need to do the jobs! If they need fencing to help patrol areas listen to them! But don’t waste the countries time in court appropriating private land for years to come. Pass the original bill, stop the shutdown and then get to work funding real border security and immigration processing.

The right no longer seems to cherish a constitutional democratic republic with a government of the people, by the people, and for the people but rather a destructive disestablishment authoritarian autocracy that excludes the vast majority of the population. How much longer are we going to endure their un-American behavior?

I absolutely agree that 45 owns the shutdown. HOWEVER, McConnell is 100% responsible for making no effort to stop him. It really bugs me when Facebook posters blame ALL of Congress (including Democrats) equally with 45 and McConnell for the shutdown. Past time to force the 2 to end it.

Anyone who blames the Democrats for prolonging the shutdown has to understand that the reason Democrats are so adamant is if they cave for this issue, Trump will keep asking for more ridiculous things… and also set the precedent that a future Democratic president might do this for something like gun control or environmental protection.

There are a few new polls Senate Republicans might want to check out before they decide how to vote on the bill to reopen the government until Feb. 8. They are not in a position of strength on this one, at least when it comes to popular support.

A CBS News poll finds that 66 percent of Americans think Donald Trump should agree to a budget without funding for his border wall, while just 31 percent say he should hold out for his wall. Where Trump will take comfort there is that 65 percent of Republicans want him to reject a budget without wall money, but that 65 percent of Republicans is not going to be enough for 2020 wins in a lot of places. Almost even sweeter, 47 percent of people said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is doing a better job handling shutdown negotiations to just 35 percent who said Trump, Mr. Art of the Deal himself, is doing a better job.

A Politico/Morning Consult poll, meanwhile, found that 54 percent of people blame Trump and Republicans for the shutdown, compared to 35 percent who blame congressional Democrats. A third poll, from Public Policy Polling, found similar numbers: 55 percent blamed Trump and Republicans, while 43 percent blamed Democrats. Trump had 35 percent of the respondents with him in wanting the government to stay shut until he gets his wall money, which is a strikingly large number of people willing to cause massive pain for a pointless exercise in bigotry, but a very low number if we’re talking about trying to win elections.

This is not a side issue, either. The CBS News poll found that 60 percent of people feel the shutdown is causing the country serious problems.

Trump eventually did what any other Republican would do, he passed the blame onto Pelosi and the Dems. Neat huh?
