She gave a damn good reason for wanting to cancel a combined meeting of the legislative and executive branches of government. Trump’s shutdown has left us extremely vulnerable in terms of security, which was perhaps his plan all along.

He can still deliver the address. He can write it out. Doesn’t he “…have the best words”? If he wants to say in front of Chuck and Nancy that he would shut down the government then he has to be ready for the consequences. Its called “Being an Adult”.

Once upon a time Rs did that.

She should not talk to him until he reopens the government. Otherwise, it will set a terrible precedent—what if the next President decides to shut down the government until all automatic weapons are declared illegal? Making law us up to the Congress—not the President.

Trump cancelled Pelosi’s important and secret trip to the war zone while he flew Melania down to marge lardo on a military jet. The Trump admins arrogance and ugliness has no bounds.

You have to mentally ill and vicious to support Trump.

Trump has addressed the nation twice this month and twice he distorted data and ignored conflicting facts. Want a humanitarian crisis to address consider taking action against look at the rate of gun shot victims.

Ramirez just doesn’t understand how the US government works. The President can’t summon Congress into a joint session and demand that they listen to his speeches. (Castro and Saddam Hussein could, of course . . . ) “The president must be formally invited by the Speaker to address Congress and typically accepts the offered date.” https://thehill.com/blogs/floor-action/house/261513-state-of-the-union-jan-12

There was a minor kerfluffle a few years back when the Republican speaker — I think it was Boehner, but I’m not sure — rejected all of Obama’s suggested dates.

And couldn’t Ramirez be more creative than just cut-and-pasting a Trump tweet and using it as Pelosi’s letter?

Ramirez, you really want people to treat Trump like he is actually a President. Not going to happen. Ever. We didn’t vote for our legislators to propagate a lie.

When / if Pelosi invites the trump to give his state of the union address.. she should insist it be fact checked before it is fed into the prompter.. and the media be given a copy to see where and when he strays off topic.

Stephen Runnels wins the prize for the most insightful comment on this toon. You cannot treat tiny as if he is a regular president, deserving of respect for the office even when disagreeing with man.

You cannot treat this monster as a regular human being, much less as a regular president. For one thing, he’s clinical, demonstrably psychopathic. He only appears “sane” to his deluded followers. He’s NOT sane. Not even close. His amorality is one more indication of his psychopathy. His prodigious, continual, shameless lying is another marker.

His obsession with himself is obviously sick, sick, sick.

What’s worse is that he is a stooge for Russia. Everything he does is in Russia’s perceived interest. Nothing he has said or done is even vaguely in the interest of America or Americans. That’s treason.

“While not required to deliver a speech, every president since Woodrow Wilson, with the notable exception of Herbert Hoover, has made at least one State of the Union report as a speech delivered before a joint session of Congress. Before that time, most presidents delivered the State of the Union as a written report.”

. . . it appears to me that Congress needs to do their job! We could waste $5B on Trump’s plan or we can allow Congress to debate the proper appropriation of funds based on a detailed plan. Holding 800K GS workers hostage will not protect America. What happened to the bill that Congress pasted and Trump agreed to sign, until FoxNews gave him a silly hissy fit? DO NOT WASTE APF $! "Haste makes waste!

Congress has not been able to agree on immigration reform for a very long time. Closing the government is causing a great deal of harm to the workers, national parks, U.S. credit standing, etc. Open the government to stop the harm and then debate immigration.

When Trump proposed temporary DACA protection, Ann Coulter and racist Steve King complained vehemently. So Trump would never actually hold up even this lame promise for temporary protection.

I don’t know. Seems strategic…not childish. Taking away a bully pulpit from a bully seems like good idea. That’s the real problem. The democrats pretty much can’t give in. One of the few lessons in life that is almost always true is that you can never back down from a bully without encouraging them to be even worse than before.

We all know who the adult is and it sure ain’t Don the Con. We’re mired in the longest Government Shutdown in Us History and trump proudly said he’d own this shutdown. The reason he made such a dumb comment is he is trying to please his hardline right wingers like Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter who said he’d be a loser if he kept the Government open without any money for a Wall. Btw but there will never be a wall that he envisions but Democrats will gladly support him on Border Security. He can read the polls and he’s losing even his core base that stuck with him. Right now furloughed workers and farmers who voted for him surely won’t vote for him again
