You were Mao’s translator. You’ve lost your innocence multiple times.

Don’t worry, Honey; you’ve been a woman since puberty.

I know she was upset about losing her lacey “unmentionables”, but to lose one’s innocence, and having a “grease fire” make her a woman, alarms me to think that she could’ve been ravaged. I can only hope she’s referring to Duke’s having “gone postal”, but she is in the middle east, and women are not well respected, to put it mildly.

How is Duke going to win her back for when he needs her.

I truly doubt Honey was “ravaged.”

Duke has zero interest in her, in that regard.

She, on the other hand, bought the aforementioned unmentionables in the hope that mentioning them to Duke would pique that very interest….

    but it never will.

The fire made her lose her faith in his goodness, and, perhaps, in the fairness of life…

but Honey will never lose her adoration for Duke, or admit romantic defeat.

Even when she tries to make him jealous by having a different man in her life, he makes it clear that he doesn’t care but she believes he secretly does.

She’s not meant to be a pathetic character…

Remember… this was written 30 years ago… it might be a bit unacceptable today…

but the fact the she’s actually the strong, capable one, and doesn’t know it, is what made it funny back then.

I guess that we can conclude that Honey is not one of Duke’s imaginary “friends”.

Panel 3 – “This is a great loss”. Translated – how am I going to make up for the loss of the bribe income he was paying me to stay open?
