Being truly confident means that you are big enough to take the hits. You can do things, fail, have other people laugh at you and laugh along with them. Or you can do things, succeed and have other people marvel at your genius.
I’m ex-military so I think of a lot of things in military terms. One reason the blitzkrieg worked so well was that countries in Europe are small, about on par with large U.S. States. So all the defense has to be stacked up on the border. Once that defense is breached, the invasion cannot be stopped.
Shallow people are like that. Their defense is all at the border. It’s their facade and it must be defended at all costs.
Confident people are like Mother Russia. Invaders come in and are swallowed whole. It’s a lot like having a punch thrown at you. You can resist and get a black eye, or you can yield and once the arm is fully extended it has no more force and is no longer a threat. These people have what is known as “defense in depth” they do not have to defend every point and let their enemies exhaust themselves in their attack.
