    Et tu, Jim Morin?

As @Be this guy notes, 800,000 workers aren’t being paid. And what are they not being paid for? Keeping us safe at airports. Processing our tax refunds. Operating our national parks. Processing passports. Operating the Environmental Protection Agency. Homeland Security. Justice Department (including the FBI; bad news for Trump, Mueller’s investigation is funded separately and Mueller and his team are still getting paid). FDA and FAA — those who safeguard our supplies of food and medicines, and those who ensure safe transportation (entire Department of Transportation is affected).

Government actually does stuff. Some of those not getting paid are still forced to work without pay checks; in other cases, the work simply won’t get done.

Hope Jim Morin is not hoping for an early tax refund.

People shouldn’t confuse the inactivity of the Congress and White House with the day to day people who serve the nation. With millions of employees, bound to be some bad apples, true; but the political appointees are the real problem, and we’re getting the worst ever.

So Mr Morin you are saying that you don’t want your meat and commercial aircraft inspected, your flight routed to the right airport safely, your highways built, bridges repaired, the soldiers to receive food, gasoline or uniforms; you don’t want your kids educated; you don’t want criminals to be incarcerated/prosecuted/apprehended; you don’t want clean air, water or land. Of course you are saying that as you are a typical no-nothing republican.

I have an idea. Why not send all those vacationing, out of service congressmen and women out to do the jobs of those now put out of work. Run the parks, sweep the street, MT the garbage, drive the buses, clean the bathrooms…do all that ‘stuff’ DD Wiz alludes to. WITH NO PAY!

    Apologies to MLK… “I have a dream!”

Our National Parks are closed. There’s a huge difference. The nation’s capital isn’t being cleaned as it should — and many of those functions are now foisted on DC city cleaners with no extra funding. That’s a difference. But Congress and the White House staff are still being paid.

    Compromise?

    " …

Most voters oppose President Trump’s demand for border wall funding, but think that the White House and congressional Democrats should compromise on funding for the president’s long-promised project, according to a new Harvard CAPS/Harris poll released exclusively to The Hill.

The survey found that 56 percent of respondents do not support the president’s proposal to construct a wall along the southern border, compared to 44 percent who do.

Erecting a broad security barrier along the border is only slightly more popular, according to the poll. Only 46 percent of respondents support that proposal, while 54 percent oppose it.

A majority of U.S. voters surveyed, 58 percent, said Trump should withdraw his demand for the border funding, while 42 percent said the president “should not give in."

    …"

Its the Trump shutdown of the Trump govt.

When Pelosi comes to power in a few days, the adults will over ride baby Trump.

The things that should be different, congress getting something done, etc, are the same during a shutdown. But as mentioned by others, tens of thousands of workers not getting their pay.. that’s sad and hopefully will be resolved soon.

Jlocke is pretending to seem reasonable and intelligent. His bar statement certainly indicates the quality of his preferred establishment is definitely way lower than mine, and mine doesn’t even have a pool table.

Why even bother arguing with jlocke? He appears deficient in empathy, reacting from an emotional basis, not a factual one, nor is he willing to consider any concepts valid other than those he already holds (very like Trump in that respect). But he clearly considers himself a moral person and those of us who hold different opinions immoral.

Maybe jlocke would have been more empathetic had he been raised with both white and black rats…

Nothing is being accomplished? So the Democrats in the House preparing 85 or more investigations into Trump Maladministration crimes is chopped liver? Meanwhile McConnell is quite happy stuffing the Federal Judiciary with the farthest-right judges the Federalist Society can find.

I don’t know why people reply to jlocke. The responses back from jlocke don’t make any sense unless you can suspend all logic. Don’t take Trump literally when he says Mexico will pay for the wall, but take “building a wall” literally. Experts have said that a virtual wall is a far better option. Don’t take Trump literally when he says he is proud to own the shutdown but we’re supposed to believe him when he says it is the Dems fault.

Trump has said Mexico will pay for the wall at least 20 times.

    http://fortune.com/2018/12/13/trump-mexico-border-wall/

That puts it far beyond the pale

Of a good ol’ boy drinkin’ ale.

    and just blowin’ smoke

    and makin’ a joke.

So sad there’s many a sucker

jlocke, your list is made up of common expressions that people know should not be taken literally. “Mexico will pay for the wall” and the silly back-and-forth chant about it done at Trump rallies is not comparable in any form.

Making up false equivalencies just lessens any point you are trying to make. But you can say several of your examples to yourself if you’d like.

Ok, I’m going to let jlocke interpret trump to us all:

“What trump said in the past is all allegory, metaphor and humor.

“What he says now is literal. So, if he contradicts himself, what he says now is what he meant all along, whether it’s the Wall, or who owns the shutdown, or anything else.”

    Perfectly clear!

jlocke appears to be unable to recognize that one’s word should be one’s bond and is thus ready to excuse Trump whenever he goes back on his agreements, which he does in a fairly frequent manner. He now has an international reputation for being untrustworthy. What jlocke does not seem to understand is that without that trust, that basic honesty, human society cannot function. It is NOT smart to cheat, to lie and to welsh out on contract and agreements, and it could well have devastating effects not just on US society but on world stability. But jlocke seems not to value quaint ideas like honoring one’s promises and commitments.

“I understand President Trump has lied at times.” 6000 plus false or misleading claims. That is not humor, that is pathological. Jlock’s defense of Trump’s lies is pathetic at best.
