The government shutdowns I recall are more like all of us working our tails off because no overtime – also – no time off because any vacation or sick time during a shutdown is leave without pay.
Oh, yes: Did I mention, work for no pay?
Yes, yes, we get it back once the shutdown is over.
But bills and collectors don’t give a rat’s tail that your paycheck is in limbo!
Next time your stuck on a cliff, house is on fire, you’ve been robbed, you need an ambulance or doctor who got a government student loan and worked it off by serving, or terrorists are at your door, handle it on your own. (there are lots of other examles of what “government employees” do.
The number of federal employees has been fairly constant while the number of state and local employees has grown. Personally, I’ve seen more deadbeats at state and local than at federal levels.
Mr. Stantis does not seem to understand how many work in government from a sense of public service. That said, in the shut-downs I have observed as a fed, I and my compatriots worked regardless until the doors were shut by executive order (and then many tried to sneak in because they felt obligation to keep the work going).
Coffee out the nose funny, thanks Scott…. as a 30 year “essential employee” I would have taped this next to my collection of Gary Larsen’s “The Far Side” toons on the side of my work desk…
I worked for the government one summer as an intern. I can’t recall anyone in the building actually accomplishing anything. I think all these comments are true—the government is so enormous that you can find any example that you want somewhere

Will we furlough those jack-booted thugs from ICE and CBP, or is letting brown people die a priority for this administration?

Just wait till you have some uninspected meat, try to file for Social Security, want a weather report, or need to be rescued.

The artist has obviously never worked for the govt.
As a retired federal employee I endorse the Trump shut down of the Trump govt.
Anything that slows down the Maga termites from destroying our govt further is good.

The wrong part of the government was shut down.

Trump says ‘many’ federal workers are happy to work without pay until he gets his wall.
