“Mayor Koch has stated that hate and rancor should be removed from our hearts. I do not think so. I want to hate these muggers and murderers. They should be forced to suffer and, when they kill, they should be executed for their crimes.”
He continued:
“Yes, Mayor Koch, I want to hate these murderers and I always will. I am not looking to psychoanalyze or understand them, I am looking to punish them.”
“That to me is the thing with this man: He wants to hate. When Trump feels what he believes is a righteous indignation, his default position is hatred. Anyone who draws his ire, anyone whom he feels attacked by or offended by, anyone who has the nerve to stand up for himself or herselfand tell him he’s wrong, he wants to hate, and does so.
This hateful spirit envelopes him, consumes him and animates him."
I did not keep a count but a lot of today’s cartoons have used the “tree of life” concept. No question that this was a tragic event.. but why do not see similar reaction when “other”.. churches and denominations get shot or blown up?
A sad irony: The full name of the synagogue is Tree of Life – Or L’Simcha. The Hebrew words mean “Light of Joy.” 11 dead & the light of joy has gone out…
I’m not Jewish but grew up in a wonderfully mixed neighborhood. At 16 I went to work in Jacob Newman’s 5 and 10 cent store. After awhile the other, much older employees got used to me and started sharing stories of their youth. They were all Jacob’s friends who had survived concentration camps. They showed me their tattoos and shared their many stories. The light of joy has dimmed but has not gone out and the Tree of Life, although the community is in deep mourning, as we all are for them, will not just survive but will thrive again. It will take time but a community filled with love for one another is so much stronger than the hate that is so rampant today.
There is Hate governing, perching high above the US and deciding that bigotry and fear will rule. It is up to the citizens of this country to decide when they have had enough.
By most of the comments in here, I see that hate flows pretty freely through both parties, through right and left, through red and blue. I think there are glass houses everywhere.
Hate has no boundaries – ethnic / gender / religious / national / political. All are equally guilty of spreading the disease. And this electronic media only makes spreading the disease so much easier.
In the instant rhetoric, the popular religions all have a common trunk and root. To eliminate one facet will destroy the foundational tenets that other religions rely – perhaps the very foundation of their own religion.
Every religious sect has done something stupid to another or itself in history. Each religious sect has saved the bacon of another at one point in history. Religious (and political) fundamentalist and extremists should not allowed to exploit the U.S. Constitutional Freedom of Religion and define our society.
The way it is going the USA will be overrun by illegal aliens from God knows where, and just because the woman pops a kid the minute she sets foot here ,the family gets to stay because the kid is “legal”. WE are the only country I know of that allows this and it is time for change!
The sad thing is that thanks to [insert whomever you want to blame and how it’s their fault here]. This is not a viable answer. Jews are good people. Most people from all religions are good people. What is to blame is the human need to justify their fears in the things and people that are not like them. The key to ending hate is to stop pointing fingers, stop blaming people, and end stereotypes. Try to see things from the other perspective. Remember that we are all people, no matter what we look like or in what faith (or lack there of) we believe.

Unfortunately Mr. Breen this drawing is way too accurate and disheartening.
