I’ve often compared blaming voters for the Democrats’ electoral losses to blaming customers for not wanting to frequent a terrible business, causing it to go bankrupt. Businesses need to work to win over customers in order to succeed, and political candidates need to work to win over voters in order to win elections. Any candidate who relies on the “lessor of two evils” strategy in order to win elections is a danger to the long term survival of the Democratic party and needs to be replaced in the very next available primary season and not allowed to run again.
Nice metaphor. Too bad the clientele simply aren’t going to another restaurant but no doubt the proprietors have tried to kill any ads for it and told potential customers the food will make them sick.
In the real world, thankfully there are more than mutually exclusive, binary choices found in the US political system. The plurality of voters, register as independent/unaffiliated and have been hoping for something better than the lesser of two evils for a long long time. Superposition of forces, working together, can achieve results greater than the individual forces can by themselves … except in the unique case where they are in direct opposition and null each other out and the system becomes completely dysfunctional. The more viable forces there are, the better the chances for positive results.
There’s an important election in a week, so it’s time for Ted Rall to convince his audience that voting doesn’t matter. There’s not a single candidate in any race who’s worth voting for or against; everyone should just stay home.
The cartoon is great and I agree with everything Ted says. Desperate times call for desperate measures, vote for Democrats next week but keep on fighting to improve them (doubtful) and get more options after the election.
But at least the restaurant is making it harder to order the Democrat meal by changing the order on the way to the kitchen, moving the restaurant for liberals and not delivering take out to “certain neighborhoods”
I guess you can take any two combinations of ingredients and boil them down so far they would taste more or less the same. That would be stupid, though. Who would that is the right recipe for an editorial cartoon? Easier to do that than actually research your topics to find differences…
What a wonderful flood of deeply felt discussion you’ve stirred, TR! I enjoyed the idea that one item toxic menu just needs easier access to make the establishment popular. I think though that R’s eat the good stuff, and have to shove sloppy seconds down our throats. Comic is TOO TRUE! Pow!
Problem is, while just about all of the patrons agree there should be something else on the menu, none of them agree what that third choice should be. The times when the restaurant has tried adding another option (Libertarian cabbage? Green eggs and ham?) very few patrons ordered it.
“Corrupted by wealth & power, your government is like a restaurant with only one dish. They’ve got a set of Republican waiters on one side and a set of Democratic waiters on the other side, but no matter which set of waiters brings you the dish, the legislative grub is all prepared in the same Wall Street kitchen.” (Huey, 1932)

It’s a choice between a Republic that doesn’t pretend to be democratic and a Republic that does pretend to be democratic.

“EDGAR ALLEN POE’S MONSTER MOM PROBLEM”
Poe resurrected from the dead
By dear departed mom’s side it is said
DNA is of the unearthly kind so sublime
A giant black “spider” he can be one anytime
Halloween is every day he can see some people
If local’s disappear and loath the night
A giant crawling “spider” may set them aflight
Poe is the spirit of the night forever more…
Where is dear old mom he will find he fore swore.

You do know that there are more than just two parties in this country.
