The reason for the protest is proper. Unarmed black men are fatally shot by police at a rate five times of that of unarmed white men. This is fact: download the Washington Post Database, put it in a spreadsheet and crunch the numbers as I have.

Players have a right to protest. This is also fact: see the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.

Now for the opinion. They way they are going about it is wrong (there’s the judgement).

“Black lives matter” is a segregationist sentiment. It sets up an “US-THEM” situation. It also implies that non-black lives don’t matter. (Slippery logic, but easily believed by the movement’s critics). Instead the movement should be called “Every Life Matters.” That is a unifying statement and I’d be on board in a minute.

Not standing for the National Anthem gives critics the fuel they need to claim that BLM people are anti-American. Again, not iron-clad logic but an easy conclusion to make. Instead they should take a knee in a moment of silence before the anthem and come to attention at the first note. I think that would be more impressive and say, “This is my America too!”

While we go on arguing over the means of the protest, police are still shooting unarmed civilians and killing them at a rate of almost 1,000 people a year for the past several years (all the data I have available). We have a broken system here and it’s being ignored. Trump’s done a great job of diverting us from the true problem: why are police shooting people of any color?

I love it. I hate N****rs, so I will burn my $150 pair of Nikes to show it. Racists are sad people.

Nike is pleased that some people who would never in their lives before buy Nikes, are buying their shoes now, some to show agreement and support and some (Trump idiots) to burn. If anyone thought they hadn’t thought this through well in advance they don’t understand they way promotional people think.
