What “freedoms” are you losing to socialism Lisa ? Are you suggesting that the regulations protecting the environment and consumer rights that Trump is now getting rid of were somehow impeding your rights ? Can you please explain what you are implying here ?

VENEZUELA! DEEP STATE! PIZZA-GATE! SANDY HOOK ACTORS!!! DERP!!!

The entire world will implode and society will be destroyed if we allow wealth to be distributed evenly throughout society! /s

Or…if you’re not a moron, you might consider the virtues of a balanced fiscal diet.

Think about money like calories. You need a certain amount if you want to do things; perform day to day functions. Too little and you can’t survive. But most people don’t consider the negative side of financial excess. I put to you that is it obviously unhealthy for society at large. (Society being a body comprised of systems, just like each individual body.) If a small part of the body gets all the nutrients, the body ceases to function well as a whole. We can see that everyone benefits when everyone has enough to live well. But we can also see that individuals live better healthier lives when they take care to “trim the fat” of excess wealth for their own physical, mental and spiritual benefit.

A society where generosity is the norm could allow people to live healthier lives. In the wild, it is natural to want to hoard wealth and resources. Wealth and resources are scarce and animals live moment to moment trying to get enough food, water, shelter, etc. But humans that have that problem only have it because of the greed/fear paradigm which drives people to hoard, when they can, more than they could ever possibly use. This hoarding is driven by the survival instinct fear that it’s “me against the world”.

But if instead, the normal societal attitude was one of generosity and cooperation, people wouldn’t give in to that fear nearly as much because in that society, when you don’t have enough, others help you get enough. And when others don’t have enough, you help them.

But what is “enough”? It’s hard to gauge anymore in a society where commercialism and the science (or religion?) of marketing has perfected the art of keeping people on a treadmill of wanting more.

Lisa please… that was stupid even by your standards! I am a Swedish citizen – probably don’t get more socialist than that (no Venezuela isn’t a socialist state – it’s run by a dictator). Next Sunday we got to free and open elections for government and we currently have 8 parties in our parliament – lots of free choice. This unfree communist country has give the world great market economy based companies like Minecraft, Skype, Spotify, Volvo and Autoliv (liv=life and they make safety belts and air bags for the auto industry. They make safe airbags compared to their now extinct competitor Takata from Japan, who took short cuts for profit – caring can be good for profit too….)

Good grief. Socialism is an ECONOMIC system. No where does it demand that freedom be relinquished any more than capitalism does. This is ridiculous.

In capitalism we have the oligarchs using their money to corrupt and control our government. There is nothing “free” about that.

Yes, nations using socialism have many problems. But lack of freedom is not an automatic consequence of it. The lack of freedom is because people are basically idiots.

That’s right, Lisa, and we all know the Repubs would like the old folks to die of starvation and disease while they were preserving their freedom. Of course, we should know by now that the Repubs main interest isn’t freedom, but the accumulation of wealth in the top 1%, who are mostly your folks.

Socialism? …….Again? Is Finland Lisa’s Bogeyman? Sweden Denmark??

I think that Trump is closer to Socialism than the Dems.In a National Socialist system the Government teams up with the contortionists to wage war on the working class.

For Instance step one Break Unions Trump has broken an agreement for COLA ( Cost of living allowance) for Federal workersStep 2 Declare the Media the enemyStep Three declare elections rigged and not legalstep 4 use the military to quell public unreststep 5 declare the opposition illegal, arrest and murder them.

There you have Fascism also called National socialism explained

Who do you think are the Socialists?

As opposed to the Patriot Act after 9/11 – turning citizens into suspects ever since. Habeas Corpus; who needs it? Right to Counsel; forget about it! Detention incommunicado without a hearing; administrative convenience! But it’s only for the “bad people” as determined by our infallible beloved leader.

The ideas of Adam Smith created the greatest government, economic, and military colossus in world history. The ideas of Karl Marx gave us the Soviet Union, The People’s Republic, Pol Pot, Castro and about 100 million souls documented in the “Black Book of Communism” who were sacrificed trying to make it work. The Democrat Party of Sanders, Warren, Cortez et al is doing all it can to emulate Venezuela which is the current example. Although they are convinced they can make socialism “different” it always ends up having to be done by force. The intelligent and industrious will never be content to work hard only to see the product of their effort go to those anxious to live off other people’s money, all the while never being satisfied they are getting “economic justice.”

Democratic socialism looks to ensure that every person is fed, housed, educated and receives health care. This has nothing to do with giving up freedom. If you want to pay for your own in any of these cases, that’s your choice.

Capitalism is all about profit. Food, housing, education and healthcare tha are based on pure profit motives is what has caused the poor health stats, massive schooling debts, and food and housing insecurity for far too many people.

People that believe they are self-made are narcissistic. Everyone who does well got some help from somewhere, plus they had luck for things like good health and opportunity. “You didn’t build that” referring to roads and bridges was twisted by the RW – disgusting.

In order to have a social democracy, aka an economic system where the government pays for the healthcare and full education of its citizens, which is what Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are asking for, which freedoms will we be sacrificing? As far as I know, we will only need to pay slightly higher taxes, and spend less on our military, which already has much more funding than it needs.

Ah yes, the Grand (for an exclusive few) Old Party spent how many years calling the ACA “Socialism” and now close to 70% of Americans are in favor of Medicare for All including a majority of Republicans. So, they might want to rethink the effectiveness of that particular bit of branding.

The way of the National Socialist Democrat Workers Party. The elites in charge think most are not smart enough to have much freedom. The government should think for all of you. From most comments from the lefties, who spew the party line, they do already.

If you have a problem with socialism, then clearly you have a problem with public schools, public transit, public fire and police departments, safe roads and bridges, reasonably safe work environments, Social Security, a 40-hour work week, overtime pay, minimum wage – I could go on and on and on enough to fill several comment boxes. If you don’t like socialism, then let’s see how long you last working 14 hours a day for chicken feed surrounded by hazards, and being glad that Grandma had to move in with you so she can watch your kids because school is too expensive.
