In principle, religions seem like a good thing, in practice, not so much; very much like our political ideologies … and both shun the spotlight because they have secret agendas.

Have a friend’s son who did 8 years of prison time for the possession of child pornography on his computer. He must check in with the local sheriff until the day he dies.
The Church was a thousand years old before it definitively took a stand in favor of celibacy in the twelfth century at the Second Lateran Council held in 1139, when a rule was approved forbidding priests to marry. In 1563, the Council of Trent reaffirmed the tradition of celibacy. (Wikipedia)
Based on disinclination of the church to support the families of priests…goes to show again about unintended consequences and greed.

Of the 2 great evil, corrupt, greedy, misogynistic, authoritarian, dehumanizing organizations that have spread their tentacles from Italy over the rest of civilization, why is it that only the less pernicious one, the Mafia, has the bad reputation?
The Catholic church was the original Christian church and all the other were cloned from there. That sort of reminds me of that old Michael Keaton movie Multiplicity where each generation of clone got more distorted.
