    Some came running

    Into danger

    Risk their lives

    Helping strangers.

    Mighty towers

    Tumbled down

    Many helpers

    Never found.

Save us from the true believers

    Hateful violence, vile deceivers.

    Today ‘tis fitting to recall

    Some came running, sacrificing all.

    Good morning™, American Heroes!

We had our annual ceremony here at the Canadian Firefighters Memorial on Sunday. One of these times, I will attend.

And we have color back (yesterday’s strip, too) but I think I’d like this one better in black and white

Never forget. I always love how we forget the 6,831 military members who died in the wars following September 11th.

The powers that be forgot the people who now have medical problems from rushing to the call when the towers were struck. Just as they do all others called to serve.

As a child of the 50’s this tragedy gave me insight on the deep emotions my parents felt about Pearl Harbor.

These in the days when heaven was falling

the hour when earth’s foundation fled

    followed their mercenary calling

took their pay and are dead.

Their shoulders held the sky suspended

they stood, and earth’s foundations stayed.

    What God abandoned, these defended

and saved the sum of things for pay.- A. E. Housman

How many other strips besides DT have a 9-11 tribute? I have found only one so far, Birdbrains:

Nancy used to do one, but a new artist has taken over that comic.

We will never forget. We must defeat the terrorist. Failure is not an option.

I read about 45 comic strips every day. This is the only one that did a 9/11 tribute this year.

Thinking of a line from an Auden poem today, along the lines of “those to whom evil is done do evil in return.”
