Read George “Sulu” Takai’s book “To the Stars” for an interesting account of living in a Japanese Internment camp during World War 2.

Sounds to me more like 19th century Britain’s or early 20th century America’s treatment of children. The English elevated child abuse and destruction of families to a high art, and the idea caught on among Americans a little later. And the curious thing about it was, those attitudes and policies were embraced by people across all socio-economic sectors, including the very ones they were designed to destroy.

Good thing the Bible says nothing about: feed the hungry, heal the sick or welcome the stranger because then we might have to rethink what we are saying when people claim that America is a Christian nation.

Don’t forget that the American government also sent survivors of its never-ending genocidal efforts against the indigenous population to some of the most inhospitable areas of the country to die in internment camps they called "reservations’. The native population is still suffering from those atrocities, and the despair brought on by poverty, discrimination, and the further environmental degradation of their remaining lands.

Actually, the law and procedure is long established. When an adult is arrested for a crime, their children are taken from them and placed elsewhere. Usually with relatives, but if none can be found or they are unfit, into foster care. This is what happens in every single jurisdiction in the US, from your local village lock up to the federal level.

The problem is that the Obama administration stopped arresting those who crossed our border illegally. Trump has resumed enforcing the laws protecting our borders.

And yes, crossing into the US illegally IS a federal crime. Not civil. A criminal act subject to prosecution, fine and imprisonment.

Off-topic a bit, BUT the mention of chess made me think of it: One of my all-time favorite editorial cartoons was by the legendary Oliphant. “Russians play chess, and Americans play poker.” With Reagan and Gorbachev. Could somebody please put up a link to that? As for today’s toon: clever, and slightly skewed, Brian, which is why I like 2PO so much. As for ANDYLIT……well, not much to say. The next time he gets his fact correct will be the first time, and meanwhile he’s pretty damn boring.

When even the Baba Yaga and Billow Reilly are saying that Dumb Donnie Dumpsterfire is tearing the G.O.P. apart, he must REALLY be screwing it up!!

Of course, NOW The Baba Yaga is claiming the kids screaming and crying as they are torn out of their parent’s arms are “CHILD ACTORS” who have been given scripts by the Democrats! Can the Republicans and their paid talking heads BE MORE REPULSIVE???

With the exception of Iran and NK, the US has embassies and consulates all over the world. And all over the world people go to those places and apply for LEGAL entry to the US.

The US has 5 consulates on the Mexican border. Immigrants can still apply for LEGAL entry. They do not have to enter the US to seek asylum.

The Mexican government ALLOWS illegals to flow north through their country fully aware that they intend to enter the US illegally.

It is long past time we enforce our border. Long past.

All this blather about internment camps is amusing but absurd.

Illegals from other countries are ILLEGALLY here. FDR’s internment camps and Wilson’s political prisoners have absolutely NOTHING to do with illegals crossing our border.

Those were crimes against our own citizens. Border enforcement is just that. Enforcement against criminal alien border crossers.

No other nation on earth (outside of a few EU countries) tolerates illegal border crossing. They scoop up the offenders and deport them within days or weeks. This is SOP for nearly every western style democracy on earth.

But you clowns want to just open our borders and absorb hundreds of thousands, millions of people who will end up on our welfare rolls. Great idea guys, great. Tell ya what. Let them live in your basement, and you can buy their food.

The above commenter needs to find something else to do with his time, maybe he could get into therapy, or maybe he could take a few classes, or maybe he could learn to cook. Maybe he could learn to do something useful rather than the negative posts that he is so prolific at printing on this page.

Hey everyone, questioning authority puts national security at risk, so please don’t do that, ok? Just sit back, obey, and let the authoritarianism wash over you.

    @Brian

I have to admire you (okay, technically, I don’t “have” to admire you) for taking the time and effort to reply to ANDYLIT, but like I said before, the next time he gets his fact (there was a reason I used the singular instead of the plural) correct will be the first time. And, of course, in the meantime he is his usual boring as hell self.

Hey Godfrey, you are quick with generalizations yet you never seem to get specific.

How about giving detail on exactly what you think I got wrong?

250 kids a day. Brought here or sent here illegally.

    But wait.

“However, family units that arrive at ports of entry and request asylum will not be prosecuted because they have not attempted to enter the country illegally, several DHS officials confirmed to the Washington Examiner. They will also be kept together as they go through the asylum process.”

Well shucky-darn, look at that. Just follow the rules and you won’t be prosecuted or separated.

Rules were made to be bent, modified, altered, and yes, sometimes even broken.

We AMERICANS do the modifying, altering and bending of our laws in places called LEGISLATURES. It’s one of our three branches of gov’t.

And sometimes, a law is found to be just plain wrong. We AMERICANS get this covered in COURTROOMS. It’s another of our three branches, known as the Judiciary.

So, simply following the Rules, Andy, turns out to not be a simple matter at all. It only SEEMS simple if you follow only one branch of gov’t, that which executes the Law….
