When our girls were little they had the “pull out the checkbook” idea. I got an old checkbook and some Monopoly money. We used one of the dining room chairs as a teller’s cage, and the older one did the math. They learned quickly and it was relatively painless.
I remember my daughter almost like Holly, then the middle school had finance class she did not like, and when we moved found out we had to scale down drastically, she found out no money not available. Now she and man in her life high on garage sales what people want to sell, and they find out people are charging too much for sales.
So instead of talking directly to her daughter about something very important that Holly doesn’t understand, Val punishes Holly for her own failing to teach basic finance to her child. :/

You’ve a lot to learn, Holly, when it comes to money

At first I thought, How did Val get a copy of that book so quickly? Then I realized she probably already owned it for Joan, back before Wally.

I thank my lucky stars that I learned the danger of credit cards in my twenties instead of my forties.
